Why does your body not feel right after birth?
Post natal symptoms often last longer than they should. Not because you are doing anything wrong, but because a few common missteps can unknowingly slow down your recovery.
Being told it is normal
Leaking, weakness and discomfort are common, but that does not mean it is something you have to accept.
Doing random core exercises online
Generic ab workouts or pelvic floor routines can miss the real issue and sometimes make symptoms worse if they are not tailored to you.
Avoiding exercise completely
Rest feels safe at first, but doing too little for too long can delay rebuilding strength and confidence.
Jumping straight back into training
Going back to running or lifting without a structured plan can overload tissues that are still recovering.

Frequently asked questions
What Causes Post Natal Pain Or Weakness?
Pregnancy and birth place significant strain on your abdominal wall, pelvic floor, hips and lower back. Hormonal changes, reduced strength and altered movement patterns can all contribute to ongoing pain, leaking or instability after baby.
Is It Normal To Leak After Having A Baby?
Leaking is common, but that does not mean it is something you have to accept. It is often a sign that your pelvic floor and core need specific rehabilitation.
I Was Told It Just Takes Time To Recover. Is That True?
Time helps, but structured rehabilitation is what truly restores strength and confidence. Without guidance, many women stay stuck with symptoms for months or even years.
How Soon Can I Return To Running Or The Gym?
This depends on your symptoms, strength and how your body is coping with load. We assess you properly and create a graded plan so you can return safely and confidently.
It Has Been Years Since I Had My Baby. Is It Too Late To Fix This?
No. It is never too late to improve strength, control and confidence. Many women seek help years later and still make significant progress.
How Soon After Birth Can I Come In?
You can come in for physiotherapy from around 6 weeks post vaginal or C section delivery, once you feel ready to be assessed. However, you don’t always have to wait that long to get support. If you are experiencing pelvic floor symptoms, abdominal separation concerns, back or pelvic pain or bladder and bowel changes it’s often helpful to make contact sooner and we can advise you on when it is safe to start.
Does The Assessment Include An Internal Examination?
A postnatal assessment may include an internal vaginal examination, but only if it’s appropriate for your symptoms and you’re happy to proceed. An internal examination allows us to properly assess your pelvic floor muscles including strength, coordination and areas of tightness which can be helpful if you’re experiencing issues like leaking, heaviness, pain or difficulty returning to exercise.
However it is always your choice!
Can I Bring My Baby?
YES! of course. Please don’t delay getting support because of childcare, we have an incredible team who are always happy to help if your baby needs extra cuddles!
Can I Attend If I Am On My Period?
Yes you can still attend if you are on your period or having post partum bleeding. If your assessment is planned to include an internal examination, we’ll check how you feel about going ahead on the day. We can continue the assessment without the internal examination if you would prefer. Consent and comfort always come first.
Can I Have A Chaperone?
Yes you are welcome to have a chaperone present at your appointment. If your appointment includes an internal examination a chaperone can be arranged as part of your visit.
